8 DAYS UGANDA CULTURAL AND WILDLIFE SAFARI

Overview:

This 8 days wildlife and cultural safari in Uganda gives you a taste of cultural delights Uganda has on its menu. As part of your cultural safari Uganda experience, you will tour the bustling city of Kampala-visiting some of its interesting sites like; Mengo Palace, the Royal Mile, Gaddafi mosque, Bahai temple and have a cultural performance experience at Ndere center.

You will visit Igongo museum for a palate of the Ankole- African culture, and during your wildlife experience, you will visit Queen Elizabeth national park for game viewing as well as tracking Chimpanzees in Kalinzu or Kyambura Gorge, trek through the Nyakasura caves in Fort Portal.

Details

Day 01: Airport arrival, pickup and visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) 

On arrival at the Entebbe International airport, you will be warmly received by the company guide and transfer to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC-zoo) for an introductory wildlife experience in one of the sanctuaries of the Pearl of Africa.

Circuits through the sanctuary will reward you with sights of some of the wildlife Uganda has in its natural reserves, maximize the best of your time at the sanctuary and later be transferred to your accommodation for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner. Overnight [O/N]: Imperial Resort Beach Hotel (Luxury) or Malakai Eco-lodge (Midrange) or Airport Guest House (Basic).

Day 02: Experience the bustling city of Kampala on a city tour

After breakfast at the hotel, you will meet with the guide here and then transfer for the Kampala city tour, to explore the city heritage. You will visit the Bahai mother of temples, one of its only kind in Africa, visit the Gadaffi National Mosque and hike all the way to the minaret where you will get a clear and stunning view of the city with its traditional 7 hills on which it is situated.

Later proceed to the catholic cathedral at Rubaga hill and a lot is to be discovered here, have lunch afterwards and then continue to Mengo Palace for a taste of Buganda's culture, you will see the Royal Mile, Idi Amin's torture chambers and explore the heritage of Buganda Kingdom. Later in the day if time allows you will visit the Wamala Royal tombs, a burial site to one of the fallen Kings of Buganda, depicting a rich African architecture. In the evening, return to the hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 03: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, visit to Igongo museum [Approx. 6 hour drive]

After breakfast, transfer very early to Queen Elizabeth through Masaka -Mbarara route. You will break-off en-route, at the Equator for a simple water tryout, souvenir shopping and photographic moment at this prime point. Continue with the drive and break-off again at Igongo cultural museum for a palate of the African culture, you will savor the delights of the Ankole culture, later have lunch at the hotel here.

Leave Mbarara after lunch and continue with the drive arriving the park area in the late afternoon, proceed to your accommodation for check-in, it is here relaxation, dinner and overnight will be.

Day 04: Wildlife viewing on Safari game drive and launch trip

Today after having breakfast, you hit the Savanna plains to lookout for the early grazers at dawn. The morning presents you the best safari moments to spot a number of wildlife that frequents the fresh grasses. Available are the Uganda Kobs, African Elephants, Warthogs, and Olive Baboons, elusive Lions as well as the odd Leopard as they stalk their prey or return to their hideouts after their night hunts.

In the afternoon after lunch, you go for a launch trip for a fascinating experience along the famous Kazinga channel. This is one of the most relaxing way to enjoy an African safari, you cruise past the enormous Hippo schools, and you will spot the wildlife along the shores that come to drink and cool off from the hot sun. After the activity, return to the lodge where you will have dinner and overnight.

Day 05: Chimpanzee tracking and cultural experience

After a soothing breakfast at the lodge, prepare to encounter the humans in the wilds as you trek through the forested depths of Kyambura Gorge or Kalinzu forest reserve. The wilds offer a stunning atmosphere to not only track these delightful apes, but also experience the remarkable beauty in the jungles of Africa characterized by the pleasant scents, sights and sounds.

Later after tracking, proceed for lunch and then head to the areas around Katwe for a taste of the African culture. You will explore the delights of the communities of Katwe, watch the local people practice the traditional ways of harvesting salt, visit the local home-stays with their initiatives such as hand works, performances among others. Visits to these communities is part of our responsible tourism and intended to contribute to/ support these local communities and their projects. Later, return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay. Meal Plan: Full Board [FB]

Day 06: Transfer to Fort Portal, visit the Mabeere caves and some of the crater-fields [About 3 hours drive]

Start with an early breakfast and leave Queen Elizabeth for Fort Portal to explore the golden treasures in this beautiful tourism hub of the country. On arrival, you will continue to Nyakasura at the Amabeere Ga'nyinamwiru caves, the site has a vibrant cultural history that cultural enthusiasts will fall in love with, the streams of water form remarkable waterfalls, backdrop sights and sounds of nature hence forming a rich cultural-natural heritage. You will sign-off the visit with a hike to some of the beautiful craters around the area and later drive off back to Fort Portal at your overnight accommodation where dinner and overnight will be.

Meal Plan: Full Board [FB]. O/N: Kyaninga lodge (Luxury) or Mountain of the Moon (Midrange) or Koi-koi Cultural Village (Basic)

Day 07: Transfer back to Kampala [Approx.6 hours drive], cultural performance at Ndere center

After having breakfast, leave Fort Portal with a target of arriving in Kampala in the early afternoon hours. The route through this side of the country is scenic and it’s dotted by undulating green tea estates, gorgeous ragged terrain which forms a stunning backdrop. On arrival in Kampala, you will head to the booked accommodation where you will have lunch and relaxation as you prepare to head to the Ndere cultural center for a classic African performance at 1900 hours. You will be delighted by the variety of stunning performances and later in the night, you will be transferred back to your hotel accommodation for overnight.

Note: The Ndere cultural performances happen on Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 1900 to around midnight. Meal Plan: Full Board. Overnight [O/N]: Sheraton Hotel (Luxury) or Imperial Royale Hotel (Midrange) or Forest Cottages Bukoto (Basic).

Day 8: Transfer to the Entebbe airport for your flight back home [Approx. 1 hour drive]

After breakfast at your leisure time, you will checkout from the hotel and your guide will transfer you to the Entebbe International airport in time for your flight back. Meal Plan: Breakfast. End of Safari
