Chimpanzees are some of the most delightful primates in the forested wilds of Uganda i.e. National Parks and Forest Reserves. They are members of the world’s great Apes, this safari will lead you into the pristine tropical forest of Kibale National Park to track the Chimps. The park is indeed a “Primate Capital of the World”, hosting 13 species including Vervet Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Potto, Black and white Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys among others as well as a population of over 1450 resident Chimpanzees. It is a diverse forest Eco-system with a number of bird species (over 372) some of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift region. It hosts a number of butterflies and wild mammals that you may encounter on this safari.
Note: On your day of arrival, you will be met and received by our guide at Entebbe International Airport and be transferred to your overnight accommodation in Kampala. Day 01: Departure to Kibale Forest National Park [Approximately 6hours drive]
Begin with an early breakfast, you will be picked by your safari guide at the hotel and then embark on a drive to the Western part of the country through the pleasant countryside via Mubende heading to Fort Portal- Uganda’s Tourism city, the route is scenic and rewards you with rolling tea estates. You will have lunch in Fort Portal town; depending on the arrival time, you may have a simple tour in this beautiful part of the country characterized by the backdrop of the jagged Ruwenzori Mountains. Later continue in the direction of the park heading to your booked accommodation. Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner, Overnight: Primate lodge [luxury] or Kibale Forest Camp [Mid-range] or Chimpanzee Forest Lodge (Basic).
Day 02: Tracking Chimpanzees and Bigodi Nature Walk.
Transfer with your guide after an early breakfast to Kanyanchu reception area-the hub of all park activities. Here you receive briefing from the ranger guide about this ritual and at 0800hours, you enter the forest characterized by towering canopies to track the delightful Chimpanzees. The activity lasts about 2-3hours and expect to encounter a number of forest species including primates and birds. On finding the Chimpanzees, you are allowed an hour in their presence; watch them feed, play, swing in tree canopies with their pant-hooting calls and later retreat to the starting point. In the afternoon after your lunch break, head to Bigodi wetland for a nature walk. The swamp is a wildlife corridor to the park with over 200bird species, 8primate species and swamp dwelling mammals like the Sitatungas. Meal Plan: Full Board, overnight at the lodge.
Day 03: Transfer back to Kampala.
Have a leisurely breakfast, in the midmorning hours be prepared to checkout from the lodge and board off to travel back to Kampala. You will have lunch en-route and continue with the drive back; either be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport for your flight back home. Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch. End of Safari
