For dedicated Ornithologists, specialized birders and budding beginners, we offer highly tailored birding tours to Uganda. The country is a premier bird watching destination on the African continent, with over 1060+ bird species and it is the smallest of the four African countries whose bird list tops the 1000 mark. The rich blend of its eco-system and biodiversity composed of extensive savannas, tropical forests, marshes/wetlands and idyllic water bodies among others factors make birdlife flourish. Uganda is at the confluence of the West African jungle and East African savannas and this explains its alluring diversity of bird species.
Uganda is a complete and exceptional bird watching destination that has attracted the attention of birders and researchers over the years, it and some of its sites have received a number of birding accolades for example; in 2012, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was voted No.1 among Africa’s best birding sites by the African Bird Club and in October 2013, the African Geographic listed the top 10 impressive birds to lookout for while on a birding tour in the country.
Bird watching in Uganda can be done almost everywhere even in the vicinity of accommodations in tourist areas, and cultivated fields among others but major key sites will definitely not miss out on any birders itinerary who makes it to the country. These include but not limited to; Semliki National Park with more than 440 species and Bwindi Impenetrable with over 350 and these parks will reward birders with the Albertine Rift endemic species like the Dwarf Honey Guide, African Green Broadbill, Shelley's Crimsonwing, Short-tailed Warbler and many others. Queen Elizabeth National Park hosts more than 600species, Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley will reward you with the best savanna species and each hosts over 451 and 475 species respectively, Kibale Forest National Park with forest varieties and a total of over 372 species and 6 that are endemic to the Albertine Rift region. Mabamba Wetland near Entebbe known for its Shoebill Stork, Tooro-Semliki wildlife reserve, Budogo Forest, Bigodi wetland near Kibale and many other sites will undeniably make your birding safari epic.
